Diane Roy, a Canadian jazz singer/pianist residing in Berlin, had her musical debut as an 11-year old in Canada with her vocal ensemble, performing folk songs from the great artists of the time, such Bob Dylan, Peter Paul and Mary and Joni Mitchell but it wasn�t until she first heard Carole King�s �It�s Too Late� and Roberta Flack�s �The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face� in her mid-teens that she knew she wanted to pursue a career in music.
In her early 20�s, Diane studied jazz voice, piano and arranging at Humber College in Toronto. She then went on to study Bel Canto vocal technique in New York under the tutiledge of Cornelius Reid, where her already naturally lyrical voice expanded into a 3 and � octave range, allowing her to sing easily and effortlessly in all styles. From there, she won a scholarship to study Musical Theatre at The Banff School of Fine Arts with Canada�s David Warrick and Broadway musical director Lehman Engel � who discovered Barbra Streisand for her the lead role in the hit musical �I Can Get It For You Wholesale� Over the next few years Diane performed in musical theatre, television and film across Canada until 1986 when she was offered an extensive European tour as a solo singer/pianist, bringing her back to her musical roots. It was there she developed her unique, soulful style and her extensive, timeless repetoire. �I sing lyrics with truth in them from the 1920�s right up to the present day.
